Day 9 Nadi Lake

The curtains were left open all night so I wouldn't miss the sunrise over our beautiful lake. Luckily, even though I didn't sleep well in the heat, I woke about 4.45am to a beautiful pink sky. I leapt out of bed, grabbed some clothes, the camera and shot out the door. What a stunning place to wake up in.

We went for breakfast after a bit of a sleep in after the photography witching hour. This is the first place we haven't had a buffet brekkie. I ordered far too much. I ordered then the guy asked if I wanted pancakes as well, fruit as well... so I said yes. Massive plates of food came out. We barely touched it. We stuffed ourselves as much as we could not to be bad mannered!

We decided to walk to the next town, Shwenyaung. We walked for a while but still could not see the town so we got a tuk tuk the rest of the way. He dropped us off at the market. It cost 1000 kyat each for the ride. We had a wander through the market then onto a back street. We found a barber where Mick got his haircut. I wandered around a bit while Mick got his trim then went back and sat and waited. A guy came and sat next to me and talked away. He pointed to my head and said, "Very good" lol. He talked and talked. Mostly we used sign language because I had no idea what he said. He pointed to Mick and said, "your brother?" I said "No, husband," I'm a good liar! The smell on his breath, at 10.30am, was of very strong alcohol. He was drunk. I moved inside the barbers, and so did he,  but got in the way so moved back out. After quite a while I got rid of him. Funny man.

After the haircut we went and explored the market. The food was interesting. We brought a couple of sweet things. No idea what they were though one of them was banana flavoured. Everyone was so friendly and kind. No hawkers yelling out at us.

We wandered onto the street and found a bar. In the bar the locals were watching bull fighting on tv and betting on it. There was a young mum and a baby about 12months old. We ordered our beer and watched what was going on. Mick offered 200 kyat as a bet (about 20c) and it was all on. The local guys loved it. He had a few bets and a laugh, I held the baby on my knee and we were all happy. They took heaps of photos with Mick and of me with the baby. Such lovely people. Sad they were in a bar at 11am drinking and betting but maybe they run night restaurants or something. Who am I to judge? I was in there too after all.

Missing my grandbabies :(

We got another tuk tuk back to our hotel where we just blobbed. We went for a wee walk in the other direction towards the next village but the heat got to us and we had to turn back. We watched some guys fishing in the lake and some farmers planting rice and working the land. We saw goats and local cows plus a few bison. Lovely place.
Moo!

Billy Goat Gruff
Check out the markings on this spotty goat.

Water bison

A crop of sunflowers

This was taken from the side of the road. The road has a drain that runs right down and lots of wee lakes and ponds. Fishermen are everywhere even in the grubbiest looking drains.

Drank some beer on the deck and relaxed before going over to the bar for happy hour and a rum sour and daiquiri. They served us some Chinese Beans which looked like dried and salted broad beans. They were good.

I took another couple sunset snaps. A car load of guys pulled up beside us and watched the sunset too. They showed us some fruit on a tree we were standing near and got some for us. I have no idea what the wee red things were that looked like tiny cherry tomatoes were but man they were sweet like lollies. So good.

They went on their way and we wandered across the road to a restaurant. The food was okay. We had the same chicken as last night but nowhere near as good, fried veges and spicy fried fish. The food was the second worst we have here but nowhere near as bad as the worst one we had. It was nice but we have been spoiled.

I talked to the children at the restaurant when I was wandering around taking photos. It was similar to last nights with the wee table, sitting on the floor and grass hut on stilts kinda thing. The kids were running around with water lily leaves on their heads like hats. So cute.

We brought a bottle of beer and a half bottle of whisky. That and the meal  came to about $19.00nz, 20,000.00 kyat. Bloody good value!

When we got back the hotel people arrived to see if we wanted them to shut our curtains! We sad out on the deck for a while to polish off the beer before having an early night before our early start in the morning.
