Day 8 Bagan - Heho - Lake Nadi

After packing up and having our love kai for breakfast we were packed up into our taxi and taken to the airport. It was only about 15 minutes from the hotel so not a big drama. The airport itself was a beautiful pink ornate building on the outside.

We checked in and our bags were weighed then carried manually out to the plane by a wee man not much bigger than our bags. No conveyer belt or trolley.

Although the airport had a coffee shop we were sent through to the departure lounge that turned out be rows and rows of plastic yellow and orange seats. No coffee, no water but an attempt at air conditioning. We were about an hour an a half early. Good time to go through our photos.

Mick elbowed me one part of it to look at a huge scorpion running across the floor. It had come in when doors opened between flights. The creature was about fifteen cm long. I wouldn't want to mess with it. I got close enough for  snap before a security guard swept it back outside. Wouldn't want to find one of those suckers in my bed!

Our flight was only about 40 minutes. It took us into and over the mountains. We could see village after village and many, many pagodas. There were patchworks of fields in all different colours of browns and reddy browns. It is the dry season.

We landed at Heho airport. Climbed off on the runway and grabbed our bags from on the runway and went to find our driver (that sounds flash eh?).

We had about a 45 minute drive through a windy mountain road to our hotel. The road is being developed with people putting tar on. They were shovelling the tar into baskets and pouring it onto the road and smoothing it out. It will take a very long time!! We passed lots of very large truck and trailer units too.

When we got to our hotel I was blown away. The desk is so ornate. Made to look like a gold and jewelled crown almost. So flash.

We were driven to our room in a golf cart. It wasn't far. We could have walked. Our room is a dream. Nice place for a honeymoon. I will need to find a husband so I can come back!!!

The lake is just chocker full of fish. Many different kinds swimming around our balcony. The room is on stilts over the water. So perfect.

We blobbed for a bit then went for a walk down the road. We had a beer in a tiny wee hut before wandering along to find a slightly larger one where we had lunch. The lady was so lovey. We watched some children fishing. The lady who owned the house were ate at had a baby. The baby really didn't like us. She was very scared of us. We didn't know what we were eating but it was some kind of meat, port or chicken, with broth and noodles and all sorts of other stuff just thrown into it. Man it was good.

This is what our meal was cooked on.

We walked on a bit before walking back to our room. The heat was almost unbearable. Thank goodness for the slight breeze.
There is a road right around the resort so we followed it. It took us to another which is behind the units opposite us. It is much bigger one. We could see Storks feeding out in the lake. The dragonflies here are stunning. Many different sizes and colours. Same with the butterflies. Just amazing.

After our walk we came back for a beer on the porch. I wandered out to the road to get a photo of the sunset. It was quite lovely.

We wandered along the road to a restaurant. The restaurant was rooms on stilts over ponds. Little grass huts. You had to sit on the floor to eat. It was pretty cool. I wandered around the bamboo bridges for a look. Just so cool. We met some lovely people at the restaurant too.
We watched these guys fishing in this drain on the way to get some kai.

We had some kind of vege with oyster sauce, hot and spicy fish and khon po chicken with fried rice. Very nice. Oh and of course a couple of beers for good measure.

We wandered back in dark. No street lights here!
