Today was the day that Nikki-Leigh and Hayden announced to the world that there is going to be another little baby in our family. Congratulations to them both. Very exciting news. Nixon is going to be a brother :)
Grandad brought our wee moko in about 7.15 am to start the day with a smile and a snuggle. I really love starting the day that way (although Grandad had already done an hours work with the dogs before Nixon woke!).
Little Mr Super Active was soon crawling around the house. He learned how to climb up onto the spare bed by himself. Very impressive.

After the bottle, breakfast and getting dressed into his flash new Christmas clothes Nikki-Leigh, Hayden and I took Nixon to the market. What a fizzer. Most the stalls are shut until the 12th so Nikki-Leigh and Hayden decided to go to the Riccarton Market leaving Nixon with us for a few days. YAY!!! Nixon and I still managed to buy some plants from the few markets that were there - and some relish and marmalade to sweeten Grandad up so he wouldn't growl about the plants. Nixon slept in the car on the way back from Oxford to the house. He woke the minute we pulled up with a huge smile on his face. Man I love that kid!
We hung out playing in the house, had lunch before Nixon had another nap from 1ish to 2ish.
It was colder today so after lunch and the nap we wrapped up a bit and hit the garden. Nixon is definitely a Grandad's boy. He wanted to be wherever Grandad was. Watching him through the fence when he mowed the front lawn.

| Not now Nana. I'm watching Grandad. |
Nixon found the hose and seem confused as to the lack of water but entertained himself and Charlie with a game of tug of war.
 |
| I'll squirt you Nana! |
 |
| I do not want to play with you. Go away! |
Inside for a snack and a story with Grandad. Nixon will know Old MacDonald's Farm off by heart before he goes and he will think that Grandad's vocabulary consists only of animal sounds.

| With a woof woof here... |
 |
| Silly Grandad! |
Back out to the garden. Nixon chased Grandad and the mower around the lawn until Grandad decided that one armed mowing could be achieved (shame about the gooseberry bush but maybe it needed a trim anyway!). Nixon wasn't impressed when he was handed over to give the old boy's arm a rest every now and again.

| What kind of engine is this thing running Grandad? |
Time to feed the dogs. Nixon sat and entertained Skippy and Maggie while we did the rounds with the food bowls. We left Grandad to the clean up and trotted off for a walk. Nixon gets excited when he can hear a loud vehicle behind the hedge so we wandered off to have a look at the traffic going past.
Kai time. Nana's special kumara and carrot mash. What did Nixon think of that? He thought it was good spitting material. He spat it out then pulled the last bits out of his mouth. I tried again. Same result. So much for building confidence in my cooking abilities! He had a wee bit of carrot before spitting that out. Half a piece of toast but wasn't interested in the rest (my self esteem was rebuilding now. Grandad had cooked the toast and peeled the banana so clearly it wasn't my cooking after all). He had a wee bit of his custard from lunchtime and mouthful or two of Up and Go but clearly wasn't in the mood for food. Nixon sat quite happily in the push chair. I thought he was going to doze off.
 |
| Sleepy? Don't be fooled! |
Bath time before he did doze off. He livened up in the bath. Had a splash then stood up demanding to get out. I took him out sat him on the towel and he did a runner.
 |
| Catch me if you can! |
That boy can crawl fast. Off he went into the lounge then the spare room.
He sat there quietly for a minute then sped off leaving two little sheep nuggets there for me to clean up.
 |
| I'm leaving you a surprise Nana! |
Messy things these babies!
 |
| Bugger! I'm cornered! She's gonna get me! |
Off he went out the door where I caught him (without the use of a net or trapping device) and nappied him up for safety purposes.
Straight back into the spare room again. He loves climbing over the pillows and snuggling into the duvet. So much for being tired earlier. Nixon is wide awake!
Finally though I was able to get him into some pjs. Winter ones. It wasn't warm. Summer? Really? Wasn't that yesterday? Oh is it meant to be today as well?
 |
| Right Charlie, you have to distract her so I can get back out that door. Deal? |
 |
| I'm coming Grandad. Save me from this woman! |
 |
| "Hey Baxter did you see that mini human poo on the floor before?" "Yeah I did Feral. They didn't even rub it's nose in it" |
Mick cooked up all the leftover kumara that Nixon rejected into Kumara and feta cakes. Nixon sat on his grandad's knee while we ate and guess what? He loved the kumara cakes!
