Missing Nixon

I miss this wee man. I am sure Kara is enjoying him immensely. I bet Nikki-Leigh and Hayden can't wait to get home and see him. Love you wee man xxx

Day sixteen

Our last day. I'm sad :(

Grandad let me have a sleep in and he got up and sorted the dogs about 5.30am. We had a bit of a nap after that until around 8ish when our wee man was ready for his bottle. Guess who forgot to boil the jug earlier and make sure there was boiled water? Me. Bugger. I was a bit out of my routine with the sleep in so we had to wait for the bottle to cool before Nixon could have his morning drink.

Grandad and I ooed and ahhed and fussed until it was cool enough then everyone was happy. I snuggled in bed for a while with Nixon reading and playing while grandad fed the hounds.

After his weetbix Nixon played a bit more before having a wee nap for about half an hour. When he got up we finished packing and sorting things.

We went outside for a wander in the pram and to open the gate for Taua and watch Grandad gallop Sam and Ben.
Lunch for Nixon was Bacon and Lambs Fry babyfood. Sorry Nixon. I wouldn't eat it but it is meant to be good for you. Grandad shared his Nana Pam chocolate chippie with Nixon also. Very lucky boy! Nixon had a mouthful of lunch then a mouthful of plastic flower. I reckon the flower would have tasted better.

Nixon sat on the couch with Grandad like a big boy looking cute and cool all in one.

Lots of cuddles and playing, a bit of lunch and Nixon was ready for bed again. I tried hard to keep him up, playing, jiggling, walking around but he just got too tired so went back down at about 1.15pm. Sorry Kara.

About 2.30ish Kara and Kahu arrive to take our wee man home with them. Kara went in the room and woke Nixon up. He wasn't grumpy at all but seemed very happy to see his Taua and Uncle.

After dishing out a few instructions and loading the car we said goodbye to our wee moko. A few tears were shed but I know he is in good hands.

Off we went to the rubbish dump to dispose of the bags and bags of nappies and popped into work. When we got home our house felt so empty. I am missing Nixon so much.

While out sorting the dogs out twice I thought, "Where is the baby monitor" and went to go inside and check on Nixon. Very sad when I remembered he had gone back to the Coast.

Three things I will miss the most:
1. The 'snuggle' time in the mornings and his bright smile when I picked him up
2. Nixon lying on my chest chewing my pounamu necklace
3. Nixon's laughing, chattering and giggling

Three things I will not miss:
1. Jumping out of bed at some unGodly hour in the school holidays to get the dogs sorted so I was back inside before Nixon woke (although back to work tomorrow so I will be back to that anyway!)
2. Poohy nappies
3. The smell of regurgitated goats milk. It smells so much worse than cows milk formula

Three things I learned:
1. How to get poop out of the carpet
2. When in doubt use google
3. I can actually cook something that someone will enjoy (even if it is baby food)

Three hardest things:
1. Timing everything so that I had my outside chores done while Nixon was sleeping
2. Getting poop out of the carpet
3. Being tired most the time

All in all it was a great two weeks. I don't think I would ever want to be in charge of the kennels and a baby on my own again. It would have been a breeze if Mick was here the whole time but saying that I wouldn't turn the clock back for anything. I love my wee grandbaby and I have been privileged to have this time with him.

I miss our wee man :(

Day Fifteen

Of all the days for Nixon to wake early!

6.am The monitor transmitted little squeaks from Nixon's room to mine. They lasted a few minutes and stopped. I leaped out of bed, into my sexy dog clothes and sprinted out to do the rounds. Bloody Ben and his obsessive kennel piddling is doing my head in.

7am and back inside. Nixon is making bigger noises now. I popped in to cover him up and let him go back to sleep but I could smell a lumpy nappy. Up he got and had a wee play while I organised a few things for the airport and his bottle.

7.25 bottle time and snuggle time. Sometime after that I managed to have a shower, feed Nixon banana for breakfast, get dressed, pack the car, dress Nixon and tidy the bench.

8.40 in the car and on the way to the airport. Nixon was bored with the view of the Old West Coast Road and nodded off to wake just in time for the airport.

9.25 we parked up in the car park, whipped out the push chair, loaded the baby and headed towards the International Arrivals Terminal. We walked in and I read that Singapore Airlines landed at 9.05. Bugger. It was meant to land at 9.30. I should have checked before we left. I start stripping Nixon off because it was so hot in there. I looked up and there was grandad on the other side of the room. Off we trot. I think Mick noticed I was there. I'm fairly sure that he realised I was attached to the push chair that he was fussing over, but not positive!!

A few minutes later we redressed Nixon in his winter woollies and were off to the car and straight back to Oxford.

Grandad did more cuddling of our wee man. In between cuddles he unpacked and showed Nixon all the pressies he bought for him in England. Thank you Sandra and Bill for the cool wee tee shirts. I loved the one with the greyhound on it :)

Grandad was particularly pleased with the batman swimming togs he found (I won't tell him it is winter still if you don't!)

When the unpacking was done Nixon went in the push chair and we went and did a dog inspection. Nana and Nixon passed Kennel Handing 101. We wandered around the big paddock and came back in. Nixon had a wee nap.

1.30 ish up for lunch. Nana's gourmet vege delight. Even Grandad said it smelled good (he doesn't usually say that about my cooking!)

We had a bit of a play time. I have been trying to teach Nixon to clap hands and today we had success. Twice he did a little paki paki and was thrilled with himself. He is too cute!

Another super short cat nap and we all go into Oxford to pick up another pack of nappies. Mick said you can get two 24 packs of Huggies nappies in the UK for around 4 pound on special.  That is about $8.00. We picked up one pack of 20 on special for $11.99.  Didn't have to stand in a long queue to pay for it though! Did you know the wine aisle is next to the nappy one? And the beer is in the same aisle? Someone was thinking.

An afternoon of catching up on Grandad cuddles and playing with the vaseline jar. Seriously why do people spend so much on toys? It really doesn't take much to amuse this wee fella.
Dinner of Nana's gourmet veges mixed with some bacon and lambs fry baby tinned food for dinner. I've had to move the chair out from under him the last few days. Nixon has learned that he can push up on it with his feet and almost stand up. Then a play before bath along with a chew on the frozen teething ring. Poor wee baby.

Bath time was interesting. Nixon decided that he likes sucking his toes underwater. Was so funny. Each time he gently lowered his face into the water and found his toes. Had a quick suck then sat up again. He made sure that at least half the water was splashed out of the sink.

Snuggles with Grandad after his bath.
Look at this mess this baby makes!
Massage, short play then dressed and ready for his bottle. After his bottle he woke right up again and kept giggling at a very jet lagged Grandad. The two of them kept each other awake and amused for about 10 minutes. Kissing, giggling and making faces. Nixon did that too.
Nixon was in bed and asleep by 7.50. Grandad was on the couch and and asleep by eight.

Day Fourteen

6.05 Nixon woke about the same time as me. I went in, pulled the covers up a bit more, rubbed his back and left him. He went back to sleep within minutes. I went out and took care of the morning dog duties in a huge rush in case Nixon woke again but he slept until eight. I went back to bed because I woke up with a snuffle and a the feeling of a head cold.

8am bottle and snuggle time. Nixon had a look through his photos and a good laugh at himself crying. He was quite fascinated by that photo in particular and kept trying to touch it while he laughed away at it. I love the mornings with Nixon.
Nina and Alex called around for a visit. Nixon was absolutely fascinated by Alex's socks and laughed his head off when Alex moved his feet. He then tried to imitate Alex by kicking his own feet. Was so cute. What a lovely surprise getting visitors (I did get out of my dressing gown and pjs after they left!!!) It snowed nearly the whole time they were here but fizzled out to cloud then sunshine.

Nixon was quite into his wee snack. Eating it like a big boy!

3.30pm after Nixon's very short afternoon sleep and bottle we went out to do the dogs early before it got too cold. Sam did a bit of smooching. He sniffed every part of the pram.
Nixon had a very grizzly evening. The second top tooth is still only half through and the one next to that is all but through. There was a very white line across where it is coming. the opposite one is all swollen. Poor wee man. He just sat on my knee in snuggled, cried, played, snuggled, grizzled and snuggled for ages after his solids. All of a sudden after I put him on the floor and started to undress him for his bath he just got really grizzly and cried and cried. I dressed him into his PJs without his bath tonight. The first bath he has missed but he was just too upset. Nixon had his bottle then snuggled and chatted his wee baby chat before going to bed at 6.45. I think Nixon was just over tired today because he really didn't sleep as much as usual. I think those teeth are giving him grief.

One more sleep before Grandad is back. I'm looking forward to it. I'm so tired today.

Day thirteen

5.15 Little grizzles from the bedroom. Nixon was side on out of his blankets. A bit of a readjustment and he was off back to sleep.

6.15 up and out to the dogs for me. Ben and Mo wet in the kennel. I don't like mopping floors at that hour of the day. Dogs fed, run and kennels cleaned I was back inside for a shower and to get myself organised. Washing out, gate opened and house tidied by the time Nixon got up. Lovely clear, but cold morning. Brrrr.

8am when Nixon woke.
ANOTHER NEW TOOTH (well half a tooth poking through)
Nixon fed and dressed to look cute. A couple of selfies off the laptop. Was almost impossible to get one of this wriggly wee worm.

9.45 Bob, my principal arrived for our Senior Leadership Meeting. Nixon sat on his knee and softened him up.

10.00 Mike arrives for our meeting. Nixon was perfect. He had his bottle, gooed and gaaed, had a nap, got back up and was perfect the whole time.

12.30 Meeting over. Nixon had lunch and out we went to toilet the dogs and get some fresh air.

Maggie did the babysitting while I toileted and ran the kenneled dogs. She went to sleep on the job though!
Off to the mailbox to see if anyone loves us (or wants money from us) and to shut the gate to keep Charlie and Baxter off the road.
Mid afternoon sometime Nixon had another sleep. I got some more school work done.

3.30pm Out to do the night feed, toileting and clean up. Sam took a stint at entertaining Nixon. Nixon was great but got a wee bit titchy near the end. He is such a good boy.
I love my pram. It not only can be used for babies, mail and tools it also doubles as a clothes basket. Prams are female. They can multi-task. I will miss hanging out these wee socks :(

Back inside and Nixon had a wee play on the floor. He did start off sitting in his ring thingy but he lay down and snuggled into it. I thought he was going to go to sleep but he is far to nosy for that.

Once bored with that he popped into his standing thingy to eat his biscuit.

Yes. Nixon does cry. He is cute when he has a wee hissy fit though. Nana's homemade baby soup was a disaster. Nixon had a couple of spoonfuls and we ditched it for jar stuff. The vege delight must have been a fluke!
Nixon has discovered there is another sink. Far to small for him to climb in though but he loved pulling the plug out and playing.
All snuggled up after his bath ready for his massage, creams and clean clothes before his bottle.
6.00pm Evening bottle and a phone call from Grandad to let us know he was leaving for the airport in a couple of hours. Nixon listened but wasn't very talkative on the phone.

6.30pm Nixon in bed and straight to sleep. What a good wee man he is.
